With all the lakes we have in our area we often run into landscape sprinkler systems that are supplied by pumps.
Consequently we have several pump systems that we regularly maintain as well as several we have installed. Generally
pump systems take more labor to maintain. Priming a pump on spring activation can be tricky, but we have several
tricks we have learned over the years. Winterization is especially important with pump systems which are much more
vulnerable to freezing then buried sprinkler systems. We recommend winterizing pump systems by mid October to avoid
loosing a pump to an early freeze. Sometimes debris that is pulled from lakes can end up clogging sprinkler head
nozzles. Drip systems that use ¼” pipes as well as tiny emitters usually don’t work at all with pump systems unless
a filtration system is installed. Aquasense can install a filtration system for your pump that not only filters the
water, it also automatically cleans the filter after every sprinkling cycle. We have several of these systems installed,
some for over 10 years and what we have found, depending on the lake, the filter can usually benefit from one hand
scrubbing at spring activation and another at mid season. Other then an occasional hand scrubbing these filtration
systems allow for the care free operation of a drip system supplied by lake water. | ||
